WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Washington and Lee women's track & field team had a pair of athletes wrap up competition in the two-day Deacon Combined Events on Wednesday in an effort to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship Meet in the heptathlon.
Sophomore Marissa Thompson (Chatham, Va./Chatham), taking part in her first-ever heptathlon, finished 11th overall and fourth among Div. III competitors with a final score of 4,023 points. Her point total narrowly missed the NCAA qualifying mark of 4,100 points.
She covered the 100m hurdles in 16.48 seconds, ran the 200m in 26.18 and finished the 800m in 2:34.20. In the high jump, she cleared 1.42m and she posted a mark of 4.80m in the long jump. Additionally, she tossed the javelin 26.90m and posted a distance of 9.33m in the shot put.
First-year Leigh Dannhauser finished in 17th place overall with a mark of 2,539 points. She ran the 100m hurdles in 19.60, the 200m in 32.18 and the 800m in 3:20.10. In the throws, she posted marks of 6.74m in the shot put and 25.88m in the javelin, while clearing 1.51m in the high jump and posting a mark of 4.02m in the long jump.
The Generals will have one last chance to post qualifying marks when they take part in the Swarthmore Last Chance meet on Saturday.
