W&L Women's T&F In Action at Liberty Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's track & field team continued its outdoor season at the Liberty Invitational on Saturday and competing against Division I, II, III athletes, W&L came away with 14 Top 10 finishes among Div. III competitors.

Highlighting the W&L competitors was sophomore Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan), who finished first among DIII athletes in the 1500m with a time of 5:04.16. She also finished fourth in DIII in the 800m with a time of 2:28.52.

Sophomore Marissa Thompson (Chatham, Va./Chatham) was fifth in the 100m (13.34) and seventh in the 100m hurdles (16.71).

The 4x400m relay team of Ortiz, and first years Kelsey McClary (Greenwood, Va./Western Albermarle) Lauren Woodie (Bluefield, Va./Graham) and Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris) ran 4:22.87 for a ninth-place finish.

Woodie added a third-place finish in the 400m (1:02.21), McClary took second in the 400m hurdles (1:09.68) and senior Cathy Collier (Radford, Va./Radford) supplemented Ortiz.'s finish in 1500m with a time of 5:22.40, good for seventh place.

Sophomore Taylor Maxey (Poway, Calif./Bishop's School) took fifth in the discus (35.55m) and first-year Leigh Dannhauser (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) recorded a sixth-place finish in the pole vault with a heightof 23.48 meters.

First-year Ashley Gerard (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day) was second in the steeplechase with a time of 13:38.15.

The Generals return to action on April 16, at the Moravian Invitational. Start time is yet to be announced.
