SALEM, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's track & field team recorded eight Top 3 finishes at the Roanoke Invitational on Saturday afternoon in its first outdoor meet of the year.
Sophomore Marissa Thompson (Chatham, Va./Chatham) paced the Generals with a pair of event wins, capturing both the 100m (12.68) and the 200m (26.23).
Other event winners for W&L included sophomore Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) in the 1500m (5:21.18) and the distance medley relay team of sophomore Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan), first-years Kelsey McClary (Greenwood, Va./Western Albermarle) and Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris), and Schultz, which won with a time of 13:11.96.
Junior Kathryn Iwata (Pasadena, Calif./Flintridge Prep) finished second the 1500m behind Schultz with a time of 5:39.87 and first-year Ashley Gerard (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day) was second in the 5000m in 21:08.
McClary added a third-place finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.34 and sophomore Paige Gance (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) was third in the 400m hurdles with a mark of 1:14.00.
The Generals return to action on Friday when they kick off day one of the W&L-VMI Carnival beginning at 11:00 am at Wilson Field.
