CARLISLE, Pa. – The Washington and Lee women's track & field team took part in the Dickinson DuCharme Invitational on Saturday afternoon and came away with 14 Top 10 finishes and one new school record.
Sophomore Marissa Thompson (Chatham, Va./Chatham) continued her assault on the W&L record books as she set a new school mark in the triple jump (10.63m) en route to a second-place finish. She also finished second in the 55m hurdles with a time of 9.16.
The 4x800m relay team of sophomore Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan) and first-years Brandie Huffman (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier), Katie Driest (Davidson, N.C./North Mecklenburg) and Ashely Gerard (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day) recorded a first-place finish with a time of 11:16.30.
First-year Kelsey McClary (Greenwood, Va./Western Albermarle) notched a pair of Top 10 finishes, with a third-place mark in the 55m hurdles (9.18) and a sixth-place finish in the 55m (7.90).
Other Top 10 finishers included sophomore Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) in the 3000m (4th, 10:59.69), first-year Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris) in the mile (5th, 5:28.94), and first-year Alex Hagan (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant) in the pole vault (8th, 2.59m).
The Generals return to action on Friday when they compete in the ODAC Championships at Liberty University beginning at 1:00 pm.
