FOREST, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's indoor track team was pegged third in the 2011 ODAC Women's Indoor Track Coaches Poll on Thursday afternoon.
Lynchburg received 5-of-7 first-place votes for 47 points to lead the balloting. Roanoke garnered the two remaining first-place votes en route to 44 points and second place, followed by W&L (35), Bridgewater (28), Virginia Wesleyan (19), Guilford (15) and Eastern Mennonite (8).
The Generals will look to sophomore distance runner Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) to pave the way forward. She won the 5,000-meter run (19:16.52) and placed third in the mile run (5:28.54) in 2010.
Sophomore Marissa Thompson (Chatham, Va./Chatham) scored in three events at the 2010 ODAC Championships, including a fourth-place showing in the 55-meter dash (7.53), and fellow sophomore Taylor Maxey (Poway, Calif./Bishop's School) looks to make her mark throwing indoors after placing third in the discus at the 2010 ODAC outdoor championships.
W&L, which has competed in just one meet thus far, continues its season on Saturday when it hosts Roanoke in a dual meet at neighboring VMI. The meet is scheduled to kickoff at 11:00 am.
