W&L Men's and Women's T&F Teams Open Season at Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio -- The Washington and Lee men's and women's indoor track & field teams opened with 2010-11 season with a strong showing at the Marietta First Glimpse Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Generals recorded 12 Top 5 finishes and set one new school record.

On the men's side, First year Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranborrk-Kingswood) took first overall in the 400m dash with a new school-record time of 49.96. Tallman also teamed with first-years Agustin Kim (La Habra, Calif./Troy), Dillon Myers (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) and Parker Howard (Naperville, Ill./Nequea Valley) to take first in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:31.67.
Myers also took fourth place in the 200m with a mark of 23.38 and third in the triple jump with a distance of 12.42 meters.
First-year David Fishman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) recorded a third-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 3.95 meters.
Sophomore Marissa Thompson (Chatham, Va./Chatham) led the women's team with a trio of Top 5 individual finishes as well as a second-place finish as a member of the 4x400m relay. She won the 55m dash (7.54) and took second in both the 200m (27.11) and the triple jump (9.91).
Thompson was joined on the 4x400m relay team by first-years Lauren Woodie (Bluefield, Va./Graham) and Kelsey McClary (Greenwood, Va./Western Albermarle), and sophomore Paige Gance (Wilton, Conn./Wilton), as they finished with a mark of 4:26.55.
First-year Leigh Dannhauser (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) cleared 1.53m in the high jump and firs-year Alex Hagan (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant) cleared 2.44 in the pole vault to finish in sixth place.
W&L returns to the track on Jan. 15, when they host Roanoke in a dual meet at VMI beginning at 11:00 am.
