Marc Vartabedian is in his second season as an assistant coach at Washington and Lee. His first season resulted in a 19-8 overall record and the program's 23rd Old Dominion Athletic Conference title. The Generals then advanced to the NCAA Tournament before falling to Sewanee in the second round.
Vartabedian joined the W&L staff after serving as an instructor with the Southern California Tennis Academy, coaching nationally-ranked high school juniors and seniors since 2008. He also served as the National Team Coach for Tennis Europe, coaching a team of nationally-ranked junior girls and boys on a junior tournament tour of Western Europe in the summer of 2012.
A 2010 graduate of the University of California-Santa Cruz with a bachelor of arts in economics, Vartabedian was a member of the Banana Slugs' men's tennis team, twice earning All-America honors in doubles. He helped lead UC-Santa Cruz to the 2007 and 2009 NCAA Division III Championship, while also winning the Division III Doubles Championship in 2010. Vartabedian also served as the treasurer for the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) during his time as a student-athlete.
Following his collegiate career, Vartabedian played professionally on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Pro Tour for two years, earning a world ranking in doubles.
