FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) recently released its 2017 College Division All-State Women's Tennis teams and Washington and Lee senior Brooke Donnelly (Kennesaw, Ga. / Marietta) earned Player of the Year, while Head Coach Erin Ness was selected as Coach of the Year.
Along with her Player of the Year honor, Donnelly also earned First Team All-State accolades for the fourth time in her career in singles and doubles. Sophomore Tessa Hill (Canton, Ohio / Jackson) garnered First Team All-State honors in doubles for the second time in her career.
Ness was selected as the VaSID Coach of the Year for the third straight year after leading the Generals to a 21-6 overall record and the program's 15th-straight ODAC title. W&L finished 12th in the final ITA Division III poll, advancing to the third round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Emory, 5-1. Ness also earned her 100th career win at W&L earlier this spring.
Donnelly completed her career ranked seventh all-time at W&L with 87 singles wins (87-18) and eighth in career doubles victories (88-21). She was a four-year All-ODAC honoree and was named the 2017 ODAC Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
A three-time NCAA Championship qualifier in singles and two-time qualifier in doubles, Donnelly finished her career as a four-time All-American. She was also a two-time recipient of the Elite 90 Award, as having the top GPA of any player at the National Championship site. Donnelly was also named the ITA Atlantic-South Region Senior Player of the Year and garnered the ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award earlier this spring.
An All-American in doubles, Hill posted a 17-8 overall record in doubles and went 15-6 in singles during the 2016-17 season. She was named the ODAC Rookie of the Year in 2016, as well as being a first team all-conference and all-state honoree in singles and doubles.
Johanna Ranta-aho of Christopher Newport was named VaSID Rookie of the Year.
