W&L Women's Tennis Defeats No. 21 Mary Washington

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 22nd-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team defeated No. 21 Mary Washington, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon at the W&L Outdoor Courts.

The Generals are now 8-1 on the season, while Mary Washington fell to 4-4 overall.

UMW started off the match winning at No. 1 singles, 9-7, but the Blue and White answered with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to hold a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play. The Generals then swept all six matches, led by junior Patricia Kirkland (Charleston, S.C. / Ashley Hall) who won at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

W&L returns to the court on Tuesday when they travel to Emory and Henry for a 3:00 pm match.
