W&L Women's Tennis Tops Sweet Briar, 9-0

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 22nd-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team flew past Sweet Briar, 9-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the Duchossois Tennis Center.

Juniors Kelsey Vella (Sussex, N.J. / Blair Academy), Allison Hupalo (Weston, Mass. / Weston) and Sonja Meighan (McLean, Va. / Flint Hill) went 2-0 on the day to lead the Generals. Vella and Hupalo teamed up to take the No. 3 doubles victory (8-0), while Meighan partnered with junior Patricia Kirkland (Charleston, S.C. / Ashley Hall) to take No. 1 doubles, 8-2. Vella then claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles, while Hupalo recorded a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles. Meighan continued her dominance at No. 1 singles, claiming a 6-0, 6-2 win.

With the victory, the Generals are now 4-1 overall and 4-0 in conference action. Sweet Briar fell to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in ODAC play.

W&L is back in action on Saturday, when it hosts Randolph-Macon for a 3:00 pm contest.
