KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Washington and Lee women's tennis team had three competitors compete in day one of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Thursday, hosted by Kalamazoo College.
Sophomores Sonja Meighan (McLean, Va./Flint Hill) and Meghan Buell (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) each competed in singles competition. Meighan fell to Amherst's Jordan Brewer in the round of 32, 7-5, 5-7, 1-6. Buell defeated Case Western Reserve's Sara Zargham, 6-2, 6-1, advancing to the round of 16. She then lost to No. 1 seed Kristin Lim from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 6-1, 6-0, to fall in the round of 16.
Meighan then teamed up with classmate Patricia Kirkland (Charleston, S.C./Ashley Hall) in doubles competition, taking a 6-3, 6-1 win over the team of Courtney Lawless and Alyssa Roberg from Whitman.
Meighan and Buell have completed competition as singles competitors. The doubles duo of Meighan and Kirkland will advance to the quarterfinal round, which is set to begin at 4:00 pm on Friday.
