W&L Women's Tennis Tops Shenandoah, 7-0
LEXINGTON, Va. – The 15th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team ran past Shenandoah, 7-0, on Wednesday at the Duchossois Tennis Center.
With the win, the Generals are now 8-2 overall and hold a perfect 6-0 record in conference play, while the Hornets fall to 3-6 on the year.
W&L did not drop any points in the match as it swept SU in three doubles pairings and five singles matchups.
Sophomores Sonja Meighan (McLean, Va./Flint Hill), Patricia Kirkland (Charleston, S.C./Ashley Hall) and Meghan Buell (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) each went 2-0 on the day. Meighan and Kirkland teamed up at No. 1 doubles to win, 8-0, while Meighan claimed the No. 1 singles victory, 6-0, 6-0, and Kirkland took the No. 3 singles win, 6-0, 6-0. Buell joined junior Cameron Dorsey (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) at No. 2 doubles to record an 8-0 win, and Buell then defeated the Hornets at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
W&L will also face Roanoke and Bridgewater this evening.
