FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Washington and Lee sophomore Meghan Buell (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) was named the 2012 ITA Southeast Regional Singles Champion, leading the W&L women's tennis team on the final day of the ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Monday, hosted by Mary Washington.
Buell started the day with a win over Carnegie Mellon's Katie Cecil, 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-1, in the semifinal round. In the finals, Buell faced Elizabeth Martin of Carnegie Mellon, taking her down, 7-6 (2), 6-4, to be crowned the ITA Singles Champion.
One doubles team also remained in competition, as Buell teamed up with junior Claire Cahill (Austin, Texas/Texas) to play in the Doubles Championship match. The duo defeated Jillian Poppe and Natalie Savage from Salisbury, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, to claim the title.
The Generals will return to the court on October 7, when they travel to Wofford College to face Emory for a 10:00 am contest.
