Women's Tennis Competes at Day One of ITA Championships
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's tennis team competed at day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Championships, advancing five individuals and one doubles team.
In the championship singles flight, senior Lauren Lukas (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln), junior Sallie Griffin (Warrenton, Va./Highland School) and first-years Sonja Meighan (McLean, Va./Flint Hill), Patricia Kirkland (Charleston, S.C./Ashley Hall) and Lindsey Burke (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head Island) all advanced to day two of competition after winning both of their singles matches for the day.
Additionally, senior Trelsie Sadler (Wakefield, R.I./Groton School) and first-year Allison Hupalo (Weston, Mass./Weston) will continue play in the consolation bracket of the championship singles flight tomorrow. Both lost their first round championship matches, but rebounded with victories in their first matches of the consolation bracket.
In doubles action, Griffin and Hupalo were the only tandem to advance, winning both of their matches in the championship doubles flight. They will face Claire DuBrin and Cze-Ja Tam of Carnegie Mellon in the quarterfinals tomorrow.
Also continuing play tomorrow in the consolation bracket of the championship doubles flight are the duos of Burke and senior Ann Morris (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic), sophomore Cameron Dorsey (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Hathaway) and Meighan, and junior Christina Douglas (Fayetteville, N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill) and first-year Casey Mackintosh (Marietta, Ga./George Walton).
