FOREST, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's tennis team was picked atop the Old Dominion Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll that was released on Friday afternoon.
The Generals, who have won nine-straight conference titles and 20 of the 25 the conference has awarded, received all 11 first-place votes to accumulate 121 total points. Hollins was second with 96 points, followed by Sweet Briar (94 pts.), Bridgewater (87 pts.), Virginia Wesleyan (72 pts.), Roanoke (71 pts.), Guilford (60 pts.), Emory & Henry (44 pts.), Randolph-Macon (38 pts.), Lynchburg (22 pts.) and Randolph (21 pts.).
The Generals graduated a pair of All-ODAC honorees from a season ago, including 2010 Player of the Year Lauren Caire. However, four all-conference players return this spring led by junior Ellen Yeatman (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central), who garnered All-ODAC honors at No. 2 singles after posting a 13-5 singles record and a 14-6 doubles mark.
Other returning all-conference played include juniors Ann Morris (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic), Lauren Lukas (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) and Jen Snyder (Highland Heights, Ohio/Gilmour Academy), who all earned First Team All-ODAC laurels in both singles and doubles last year. Morris went 10-13 in singles (No. 3) and 18-6 in doubles (No. 2), while Lukas was 13-8 in singles (No. 4) and 14-8 in doubles (No. 2). Snyder logged a 15-6 singles record (No. 5) and a 10-8 record in doubles (No. 3).
Washington and Lee opens its spring schedule on February 19 when it hosts Bridgewater (10:30 am) and Lynchburg (1:00 pm).
