W&L's Lukas and Sadler Claim ITA Regional Doubles Title
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's
tennis duo of juniors Lauren Lukas (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) and
Trelsie Sadler (Wakefield, R.I./Groton School) captured the
Championship Doubles Flight on Monday morning during the final day
of competition at the ITA Southeast Region Women's Championships,
hosted by the University of Mary Washington.
Lukas and Sadler defeated the pair of Abby Clark and Candace Wu
from Johns Hopkins, 6-3, 6-3, to claim the flight championship.
They advanced to the finals after victories over Mary Washington's
Casey Malcom and Lindsay Raulston, 8-5, and Sweet Briar's Moriah
Burke and Ariel Honess, 9-8 (5) in day one action, while defeating
Oberlin College's Farah Leclercq and Ariel Lewis, 8-5, and topping
Carnegie Mellon's Laura Chen and Courtney Chin, 8-6, on Sunday.
By claiming the championship, Lukas and Sadler will advance to the
USTA/ITA National Small College Championships, which will take
place at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala. on Oct.
14-17.
