Three Generals Earn Weekly ODAC Honors
SALEM, Va. – Washington and Lee had a trio of student-athletes earn ODAC Athlete of the Week honors for the week ending on April 3.
Outfielder C.J. Thompson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) was recognized as the baseball player of the week, while sophomore Hayden White (Baltimore, Md./Towson) and junior Jen Snyder (Highland Heights, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) were named the male and female tennis players of the week.
Thompson helped lead W&L to a 3-1 week, including a win over ODAC-leading Bridgewater and a split with Randolph-Macon. Over the four games he hit .692 (9-13) with four RBIs, five runs scored and five extra-base hits.
Playing Eastern Mennonite on Tuesday, Thompson hit a pinch-hit solo home run in the top of the ninth to secure a 4-2 win for the Generals. Against Bridgewater on Friday, he went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. He then went 4-for-4 with a double, two triples, two RBIs and two runs scored in a 14-8 loss to R-MC and followed that performance by going 2-for-4 at the plate with one run scored in an 8-6 win in the second game of the doubleheader. Over the last week, Thompson raised his batting average 137 points, from .219 to .356, the second-best average on the team among hitters with 40 or more plate appearances.
White led the Generals to a 1-1 week with a 9-0 win over Roanoke on Tuesday and a 6-3 loss to 17th-ranked Carnegie Mellon on Saturday. In the win over Roanoke, White notched a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles over RC's Jon Roy, and combined with junior Brian Roberts to post an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles over the Maroon's Roy and James Lee. He then recorded a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles against CMU's Alex Nemerov, but he and Roberts fell at No. 2 doubles, 9-7, to the CMU duo of Jeremy King and Duke Miller. For the year, White has notched a 15-3 record in both singles and doubles.
Snyder helped lead the No. 9 Generals to a 6-3 win over No. 8 Carnegie Mellon on Saturday. Playing No. 3 singles, Snyder defeated CMU's Alexandra Tapak in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. In doubles, she partnered with junior Ellen Yeatman to top the CMU duo of Jennifer Chui and Alexandra Tapak, 8-2, W&L's only doubles victory of the match. This season, Snyder is 2-8 in singles and 12-7 in doubles competition.
