ATLANTA, Ga. -- The No. 9 Washington and Lee women's tennis team opened up competition in the Fab 10 Tournament with a 5-4 loss to No. 8 Tufts University on Friday afternoon on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.
The Generals fell behind after doubles (2-1) and could not recover despite wins by junior Lauren Lukas (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln), sophomore Sallie Griffin (Warrenton, Va./Highland School) and senior Catherine Reed (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) at No. 2, 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
With the loss, the Generals are now 12-4 overall, while Tufts improved to 3-1 on the season.
W&L returns to action tomorrow as it faces No. 2 Williams College at 10:00 am.
