W&L's Caire and Yeatman Compete at NCAA Championships
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Washington and Lee women’s
tennis players senior Lauren Caire (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall)
and sophomore Ellen Yeatman (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central)
participated in the 2010 NCAA Division III Singles and Doubles
Championships, hosted by the University of Mary Washington, on
Friday in Fredericksburg.
The duo lost all three matches they played and will not advance in
the tournament. Caire fell, 7-5, 6-0, to Kara Wang of Pomona Pitzer
in first-round singles play, while Yeatman lost, 6-2, 6-1, to
Brittany Berkes of Amherst. They also dropped their doubles match,
6-3, 6-1, to Julia Browne and Meghan McCooey of Tufts.
Caire concludes her season with a record of 7-6 in singles
competition and an 11-8 ledger in doubles, while being ranked third
in singles and second in doubles with Yeatman in the Atlantic South
Region. Caire ends her career with overall records of 47-14
in singles and 70-24 in doubles play. She was named the ITA South
Atlantic Region Senior Player of the Year this season, and was also
named the ITA Player to Watch after her rookie campaign in 2006-07.
She posted first-team All-ODAC honors in both singles and doubles
for the third time in her career earlier this season and has also
been recognized as an ITA All-American once in singles and twice in
doubles for her career.
Yeatman ended her season with a 13-5 singles and a 14-6 doubles
ledger. Earlier this season, Yeatman was named the ITA National and
Atlantic South Region Player to Watch while also earning First-Team
All-ODAC honors for the second time in her career in both singles
and doubles. The 2009 ODAC Rookie of the Year, she is ranked eighth
in singles in the Atlantic South and second in doubles while
teaming with Caire.
