W&L Women's Tennis Earns No. 6 Seed in NCAA Tournament
LEXINGTON, Va. – The NCAA announced its field for the
Division III Women’s Tennis Tournament on Monday evening and
Washington and Lee University earned the sixth-overall seed in the
national tournament.
W&L, currently 18-5 this season and ranked sixth in the
nation, earned its 17th consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament
after claiming its 20th Old Dominion Athletic Conference
championship with a 5-0 triumph over Hollins University earlier
this season.
The team will travel to Atlanta, Ga. and host school Emory
University for early round action. The Generals received a
first-round bye in the tournament and will face the winner of
Friday’s first round match between Transylvania University
(12-2) and Vassar College (18-2) on Saturday, May 15. Host Emory
(18-5) also received a first-round bye and will face the winner of
the Methodist University (22-2) Agnes Scott (11-7) match on
Saturday. Game times for the weekend matches will be announced at a
later date.
The regional championship will be held on Sunday, May 16, with the
winner advancing to the NCAA Division III Team Championships
Quarterfinals. The quarterfinals will be hosted by the University
of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va. beginning on May 25.
