Six Generals Named to Women's Tennis All-ODAC First Team

SALEM, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its 2010 women’s tennis All-ODAC teams on Friday and Washington and Lee had six players named to the first team.

In addition, senior Lauren Caire (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) was named the player of the year, while head coach Eric Ishida was tabbed as coach of the year for the third-consecutive season.

Joining Caire on the All-ODAC First Team were sophomores Ellen Yeatman (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central), Ann Morris (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic), Lauren Lukas (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) and Jen Snyder (Highland Heights, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) and senior Blair Brzeski (Westlake Village, Calif./Agoura).

Caire earned first-team All-ODAC honors in both singles and doubles for the third time in her career. She went a combined 7-4 at No. 1 singles and 9-5 in doubles action this spring, including a 4-2 record at No. 1 doubles with Yeatman. Caire is currently ranked third in the ITA Atlantic South Region in singles and has partnered with Yeatman to earn the No. 2 spot in the regional doubles rankings.

Yeatman has notched a 12-3 record at No. 2 singles and has gone 9-5 at No. 1 doubles. This is the second first-team honor at both singles and doubles for Yeatman and she also earned ODAC Rookie of the Year accolades last season. She is currently ranked eighth in singles in the Atlantic South and second in doubles with Caire.

With a 9-11 singles and 16-5 doubles ledger, Morris has earned first team All-ODAC doubles accolades for the second time in her career and singles honors for the first time. She is currently ranked 25th in the Atlantic South.

Lukas has logged a 13-6 singles and 12-7 doubles ledger this season, partnering with Morris to go a perfect 5-0 at the No. 2 doubles position. It is the first All-ODAC honor of her career.

Earning her second All-ODAC singles and first All-ODAC doubles honors, Snyder has gone 12-6 in singles while partnering with Brzeski to go 9-8 at doubles.

Brzeski has posted a 19-6 singles ledger and a 14-6 doubles record this year to lead the team in wins in singles play and stands in second in doubles victories. This is the second All-ODAC singles honor for Brzeski, and her first All-ODAC doubles recognition.

Ishida, in his third year at the helm, has helped lead the Generals to a No. 6 national and No. 1 Atlantic South ranking in the ITA poll. This is Ishida’s third ODAC Coach of the Year honor, and during that span he has led W&L to a 66-11 overall record, three ODAC titles and three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances.

Hollins University had two players recognized, as Karen Montoya was named Freshman of the Year and Sarah Budrus was named the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete. Lynchburg garnered the league's team sportsmanship award.

The Generals will next take to the court on Saturday as they travel to face Carnegie Mellon at 11:00 am.
