W&L Women's Tennis Claims Two Titles at ITA Regionals
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee women’s
tennis team claimed one title at the Wilson ITA Southeast Regional
Women’s Tennis Championships hosted by the University of Mary
Washington on Sunday.
In the Blue 3 doubles draw, first-year teammates Christina Douglas
(Fayetteville, N.Y./Manlius-Pebble Hill) and Laura Simmons
(Phoenix, Md./Bryn Mawr) paired together to claim the championship.
They defeated DeSales University’s Yilka Cana and Amelia
Lloyd, 8-0, Wilkes University’s Anna Mitchell and Mary
Washington’s Katharine Yudkin, 8-2, and finally topped
Meredith College’s Betty Edwards and Zannah Webster, 8-0.
Douglas and Simmons also both advanced to the championship match
in the Blue 2 singles draw, which will be played Tuesday in
Lexington. Simmons defeated Virginia Wesleyan's Shannon Sabo, 6-2,
6-2, while Douglas defeated Roanoke College's Corbin Leitch, 6-4,
6-3 to set-up the match.
The Generals return to action tomorrow for the final day of the
Wilson ITA Southeast Regional.
