W&L Women's Swimming Continues to Set Records at Day Two of ODAC Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming team set three new conference, meet and school records, and posted seven NCAA "B" cut times on the second day of competition at the ODAC Championship on Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatics Center.

The Generals currently lead the team standings with 694 points. Randolph-Macon is second with 373 markers and Emory & Henry rounds out the Top 3 with 313 points.  Bridgewater is fourth with 278 points and is followed by Hollins (148), Sweet Briar (122), Greensboro (93), Guilford (89) and Ferrum (78).

First-year Ali MacQueen (Memphis, Tenn. / St, Mary's Episcopal School) had a hand in setting two new meet, conference and school records.  She opened the evening session with the 200-yard medley relay that touched first with a new meet, conference and school record time of 1:44.03 that also made an NCAA "B" cut.  She was joined on the record-setting relay by senior Emily Rollo (Haddonfield, N.J. / Haddonfield Memorial), first-year Emily Hageboeck (Charleston, W. Va. / George Washington) and junior Cassidy Fuller (Moraga, Calif. / Campolindo).

MacQueen also won the 100 fly with a new meet, conference and school record time of 55.09 that was an NCAA "B" cut.  First-year Laura Bruce (New Orleans, La. / Academy of the Sacred Heart) also recorded an NCAA "B" cut in the 100 fly, finishing second with a time of 55.97.  Fuller placed third with a time of 57.57 and junior Mara Tynan (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) was fourth with a time of 1:00.38.

Sophomore Elle Chancey (Tampa, Fla. / Berkeley Preparatory School) also posted a new meet, conference and school record time, claiming the championship of the 200-yard free with an NCAA "B" cut time of 1:51.64.

Rollo, Hageboeck and first-year Taylor Ecleberry (Goshen, Ky. / Sacred Heart Academy) all posted NCAA "B" cut times as well. Rollo placed first in the 100-yard back with a time of 56.14 and Hageboeck took second in the 100-yard breast in a time of 1:05.05. Ecleberry took the top spot in the 400-yard IM after touching the wall in 4:36.02, while senior Haylee Rademann (Folsom. Calif. / St. Francis) placed second (4:40.28) in that same event.

In the 200-yard free, senior Elisabeth Holmes (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) finished second (1:54.50), first-year Caroline Florence (Dallas. Texas / Ursuline Acadmey) took third (1:56.50), sophomore Jordan Watson (Fayetteville, Ga. / Whitewater) notched fourth (1:57.58) and senior Abigial Sterns (Brussels, Belgium / Orcutt Acadmey- Brussels American School) placed fifth (1:59.07).

First-year Tori Hester (Cary, N.C. / Saint Mary's School) had a third-place showing in the 100-yard back with a time of 1:00.13, while Sterns finished fourth in 1:00.36. First-year Ashley Johnston (Gainesville, Ga. / North Hall) notched seventh in a time of 1:00.84.

The 800-free relay squad made up of Amar, Florence, Watson and Holmes clocked in at 7:47.72 to finish out day two with another event victory.

The Generals return to the pool on Sunday for the final day of the ODAC Championship. Preliminary rounds are set to begin at 10:00 am.
