W&L Women's Swimming Opens Competition at the F&M Invitational
LANCASTER, Pa. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming team was in action on Friday in the opening day of competition at the three-day Franklin & Marshall Invitational.
W&L tallied 86 total points and is in second-place out of five teams.
The Generals opened the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:41.01. First-year Natalie Brendsel (Oakton, Va. / Flint Hill) led off and was followed by senior Rebecca Lawrence (Wayne, Pa. / Conestoga), sophomore Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton Warrenville South) and senior Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C. / Athens Drive).
In the only other event of the evening, first-year Elisabeth Holmes (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) placed second overall in the 1650 free with a time of 17:40.86. Junior Sydney Gay (Henrico, Va. / Henrico) added a sixth-place finish in the same event, touching the wall in 18:29.47.
