LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's swim team set a new pool record in the 400 free as the Generals posted a 114-77 victory over the Vixens of Sweet Briar on Friday night at Cy Twombly Pool.
The 400 free relay squad of Elisabeth Holmes (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton), Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C. / Athens Drive), Natalie Brendsel (Oakton, Va. / Flint Hill) and Rebecca Lawrence (Wayne, Pa. / Conestoga) highlighted the meet, setting a new pool record, clocking in at 3:42.14.
The 400 medley relay team of Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach), Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton Warrenville South), Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) and Holmes started the meet off strong, taking first place in a time of 4:09.01.
First-year Haley Rademann (Folsom, Calif. / St. Francis) continued the success, placing first in the 1000 free (11:22.47). The Generals swept the top-three as Lizz Platt (DuBois, Pa. / Dubois Area) placed second (11:38.54) and Monica Flocken (Solon, Ohio / Gilmour Academy) placed third (11:46.97).
Senior Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md. / Saint Paul's) took the top spot in the 200 free in a time of 2:02.11 and Schaffer placed second, clocking in at 2:03.99.
Sophomore Emma Swabb (Erie, Pa. / McDowell) was the fastest sprinter on the night, taking first in the 50 free (26.07), while Holmes placed first in the 100 free (55.01). Meredith Murphy (Hillsboro, Calif. / Saint Ignatius College Prep) also picked up a first-place finish, taking the top spot in the 100 fly (1:02.99).
Brendsel and Jillian Leigh (Old Greenwich, Conn. / Greenwich) placed first and second, respectively in the 200 IM, with Brendsel clocking in at 2:24.95 and Leigh at 2:31.39.
Hamp was the only General to place in the 100 back, touching the wall first in a time of 1:03.54.
The Generals will be back in action on November 16th, when they travel to Carnegie Mellon to swim against the Tartans and the Allegheny Gators. Action is set to start at 11:30 am.
