PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming team was in action on Saturday at Carnegie Mellon. The Generals defeated Allegheny by a score of 182-77, but fell to Rochester (132-130) and the host Tartans (163-94).
W&L's (5-3) day was highlighted by the 400 free relay squad of first-year Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton Warrenville South), junior Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C. / Athens Drive), senior Delaney Rolfe (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) and first-year Grace Duncan (New Canaan, Conn. / New Canaan), who won the race with a time of 3:41.50.
Rolfe added second-place finishes in the 200 free (1:58.77) and 500 free (5:17.10) events, while sophomore Hannah Melkun (Fredericksburg, Va. / Stafford) placed second in the 200 breast (2:34.11).
Junior Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md. / Saint Paul's) finished second in the 200 IM (2:16.32), while Schaffer took third in the 100 free (55.30). Other top finishes included a third-place finish by senior Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C. / Greensboro Day School) in the 50 free (25.71), a third-place finish by first-year Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) in the 100 back (1:01.83) and a third-place result by first-year Meredith Murphy (Hillsboro, Calif. / Saint Ignatius College Prep) in the 200 IM (2:16.85).
Washington and Lee returns to action on Dec. 1-2 when it participates in the Randolph-Macon Invitational.
