W&L Women's Swimming Competes in Day One of Wingate Quad Meet

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming team sits in fourth place with 182 points at the Wingate Quad Meet after Friday evening's day one competition at the Mecklenburg Aquatics Center.

Gardner Webb recorded 422 points to lead the women's competition, while Wingate and Queens of Charlotte is tied for second with 341 points. Catawba is behind W&L, registering 150 points on the day.

First-year Bentley Boldt (St. Louis, Mo./Villa Duchesne) led the Generals with a third-place finish in the 100 free, clocking in at 54.41. Senior Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School) was not far behind as she tied for fifth in the event (54.68) and first-year Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) placed in the top-half of the field of 32 with an 11th-place performance (55.72).

Three other Generals placed in the top-half of their respective field, including two performances in the 200 IM.

In the 200 IM, first-year Emma Swabb (Erie, Pa./McDowell) touched the wall in 14th place with a time of 2:17.93 and junior Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md./Saint Paul's) was close behind in 15th place (2:18.16).

First-year Meredith Murphy (Hillsboro, Calif./Saint Ignatius College Prep) was also in the top-half of the 200 fly, taking eighth in the event in 2:15.35.

The 200 free relay consisting of junior Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive), Brassfield, Schaffer and Boldt clocked in at 1:40.78 for fourth place and the 400 medley relay finished in ninth place.

Other top performances included Swabb in 11th in the 100 breast (1:12.17), Schaffer in 12th in the 100 breast (1:12.45), Kasoff taking 12th in the 200 fly (2:18.74), first-year Grace Duncan (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) touching the wall in 15th in the 500 free (5:31.30) and sophomore Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) finishing in 15th in the 200 back (2:15.84).

The Generals return to the pool on Saturday when they compete in day two of the Wingate Quad Meet, set to begin at 1:00 pm.
