SOMERS, Wis. – The Washington and Lee men's and women's swimming teams are both ranked in the initial Endless Pools/CollegeSwimming.com Division III Top 25, which was released on Tuesday.
The men received 67.85 points to rank in 12th in the nation, while currently holding a 3-1 record. In the Generals' season-opener, they went 1-1 after defeating Centre, 216-63, and falling to DePauw, 171-109. W&L has also taken down Mary Washington, 143-199, and Randolph-Macon, 145-103 in the first month of competition. Senior Rick Sykes (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) has twice registered an NCAA "B" Cut time in the 50 free this season, and he is second in Division III with his time of 20.73.
The women are ranked 18th in the country after receiving 69.22 points. The Generals hold a 3-1 record, with their only loss coming to DePauw, 157-134, in the season-opener. W&L has collected wins against Centre, 184-78, Mary Washington, 133-129, and Randolph-Macon, 153-100, while taking first out of nine teams at the ODAC Relays. Senior Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School) and first-year Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) each were named ODAC Swimmers of the week this season.
The men's and women's swimming teams return to the pool on Friday, when they travel to Charlotte, N.C. to face Wingate, Queens, Limestone, Catawba and Gardner Webb at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center.
