W&L Women's Swimming Flies Past Randolph-Macon, 153-100
LEXINGTON, Va. – First-year Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) recorded three first-place finishes to lead the Washington and Lee women's swimming team past Randolph-Macon, 153-100, on Saturday afternoon in Cy Twombly Pool.
Foster took first place in the 100 back in a time of 1:02.76, the 200 back in 2:17.74, and teamed up with sophomores Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) and Hannah Melkun (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) and first-year Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) to clock in at 1:54.50 in the 200 medley relay for first place.
The Generals swept the Top 3 places in four events on the day. In the 200 free, senior Delaney Rolfe (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) was first in a time of 1:59.66, junior Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md./Saint Paul's) was second (2:03.74) and junior Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) was third (2:04.83).
The 100 breast featured first-year Emma Swabb (Erie, Pa./McDowell) in first place (1:12.53), Melkun in second (1:13.41) and first-year Meredith Murphy (Hillsboro, Calif./Saint Ignatius College Prep) taking third place (1:13.99).
In the 200 fly, senior Brittany Ross (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) led the Top 3 with a time of 2:19.34 for first place. Hamp finished second in 2:19.41 and senior Rachel Mensch (Edina, Minn./Edina) touched in at third (2:24.16).
W&L also swept the Top 3 in the 200 breast, with Melkun taking first-place in a time of 2:36.68. Swabb finished second (2:40.67) and Brittany Ross was in third place (2:42.14).
The Generals return to the pool on November 2, when they face Wingate, Queens, Limestone, Catawba and Gardner Webb at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center in Charlotte, N.C.
