W&L Women's Swimming Takes First Place At ODAC Relays

LEXINGTON, Va. – Setting a new meet record in the 300 IM relay, the Washington and Lee women's swimming team flew past its competition and led nine teams with 454 points at the ODAC Relays at Cy Twombly Pool on Saturday afternoon.

Randolph-Macon was runner-up to W&L, tallying 252 points on the day. Bridgewater (237), Emory & Henry (141), Sweet Briar (131), Hollins (114), Greensboro (86), Notre Dame of Maryland (78) and Guilford (28) rounded out the results.

Junior Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md./Saint Paul's), sophomore Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) and first-year Emma Swabb (Erie, Pa./McDowell) teamed up in the 300 IM relay to post a meet-record time of 3:15.94 and take first place.

Eight other relays registered first-place finishes on the day. In the 150 fly relay, Hamp joined senior Brittany Ross (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and first-year Meredith Murphy (Hillsboro, Calif./Saint Ignatius College Prep) to open the meet with a winning time of 1:24.68. First-years Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) and Grace Duncan (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and Hamp each swam a leg in the 150 back relay, clocking in at 1:27.40 for first place.

The trio of sophomore Hannah Melkun (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford), first-year Rachel Adams-Heard (Austin, Texas/James Bowie) and Swabb also collected a first-place finish in the 150 breast relay, touching the wall in 1:40.98. Foster, Melkun, Hamp and senior Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School) captured a win in the 200 medley relay (1:55.90), while Kasoff, Swabb, Foster and Melkun were first in the 100 dolphin kick relay (56.78).

Wrapping up the first-place performances for W&L were senior Delaney Rolfe (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park), juniors Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) and Rebecca Lawrence (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) and first-year Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) in the 400 free relay (3:46.81), Brassfield, Schaffer, Hardy and Rolfe in the 200 free relay (1:43.90) and the "A" team for the Generals in the 8x25 relay.

W&L returns to the pool on October 27, when it hosts Randolph-Macon, set to begin at 1:00 pm.
