LEXINGTON, Va. –Washington and Lee senior Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School) recorded three first-place finishes to lead the Generals to a 133-129 victory over Mary Washington on Friday evening at Cy Twombly Pool.
Brassfield took the top spots in the 50 free and the 100 free, clocking in at 25.41 and 55.41, respectively. She then teamed up with senior Delaney Rolfe (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park), junior Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) and first-year Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) in the 200 free relay to register her third win of the night in a time of 1:41.39.
The Generals swept the top-three places in the 200 fly, with first-year Meredith Murphy (Hillsboro, Calif./Saint Ignatius College Prep) touching the wall in first in 2:18.92. Senior Brittany Ross (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) was second in 2.19.25 and junior Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md./Saint Paul's) rounded out the top-three with her time of 2:20.86.
Rolfe, sophomore Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) and first-year Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) also ended the day with first-place performances. Rolfe was first in the 500 free (5:24.15), Hamp touched the wall first in the 100 fly (1:01.46) and Foster was tops in the 100 back (1:01.35).
Other top performances included senior Kelly Mae Ross (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) in the 1000 free (2nd - 11:19.24), Rolfe in the 200 free (2nd - 2:00.16), Hamp in the 200 back (2nd – 2:15.42), Schaffer in the 100 free (2nd – 55.47) and first-year Emma Swabb (Erie, Pa./McDowell) in the 200 IM (2nd – 2:16.82).
W&L returns to the pool on Saturday, when it hosts the ODAC Relays, set to begin at 12:00 pm.
