W&L’s Boles and Foster Recognized by ODAC

FOREST, Va. — The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 14 and Washington and Lee had two players honored.

Junior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) was named the Volleyball Player of the Week, while first-year Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) was named the Swimmer of the Week.

Boles garnered the honor for the second time this season after playing in three of the team's four wins last week. She totaled 47 kills, 52 digs, six service aces and four assists. In a 3-2 victory over Berry, she set a new career-high with 28 digs. It marked the second time this season she registered 20 digs in a match.

With her 47 kills, Boles moved into eighth on the program's all-time kills list. She now has 1,114 in her career. Michelle Chastain '04 holds down the seventh spot with 1,115 kills.

The volleyball team hosts Guilford on Wednesday in its final regular season home match at 7:00 pm.

In the first meet of her collegiate career, Foster earned two individual victories in the 100 and 200 back, securing a W&L Top 10 time in each. She helped lead the swimming team to a split in its opening contests with a victory over Centre (184-78) and a loss to DePauw (157-134). She won the 100 back by almost a full second, touching the wall in 1:01.87. She followed that win by taking the top spot in the 200 back at 2:14.30.

As a member of the 200 medley relay, Foster swam the opening leg with the group finishing at 1:53.76. The Generals bested Centre's top team by two full seconds, but DePauw's top team just beat W&L to the wall with a time of 1:53.67.

The swimming team returns to the pool on Friday, October 19, when it hosts Mary Washington at Cy Twombly Pool at 6:00 pm.
