W&L Women's Swimming Downed by JHU, 137-122

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee's women's swimming team came up just short in a dual meet against Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon at Cy Twombly Pool, falling 137-122 to the Blue Jays.

Four event wins highlighted the day for the Generals. Seniors Jocelyn Cassada (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) and Dana Fredericks (Yorktown, Va./York) took first in the 100 back (1:00.49) and 200 breast (2:34.44), respectively. Junior Brittany Ross (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) took first in the 200 fly (2:16.33) and first-year Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) added a top-finish in the 100 fly in 1:02.37.

The 200 medley relay team of Cassada, Fredericks, Hamp and junior Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day Schol) took second place in 1:52.97, as did the 200 free relay of Cassada, Brassfield, Fredericks and sophomore Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) with a time of 1:41.74.

Fredericks added a second-place finish in the 100 breast (1:10.35) and Cassada and senior Katie Salvati (Roselle Park, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) took 2-3 in the 200 back with times of 2:10.89 and 2:13.12, respectively.

The Generals return to the pool on Feb. 10, when they begin competition in the ODAC Championships beginning at 10:00 am.
