BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming team improved to 7-2 overall with a 148-101 win over Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon.
The Generals took first place in all but three events on the day led by seniors Dana Fredericks (Yorktown, Va./York) and Jocelyn Cassada (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day), who both won two individual events and competed on the winning 200 medley relay team (2:07.21). Cassada led off the relay and Fredericks swam the second leg, followed by first-year Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) and junior Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School).
In addition to competing on the 200 medley relay, Fredericks also won the 100 breast (1:18.58) and the 200 breast (2:52.64) events. Cassada touched first in the 50 free (28.93) and won the 200 back with a time of 2:28.74.
Other event winners included Kelly Mae Ross (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) in the 800 free (9:54.50), senior Elizabeth Starnes (Harrison, Tenn./Girls Prep) in the 200 free (2:19.51), senior Katie Salvati (Roselle Park, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) in the 100 back (1:09.65), junior Brittany Ross (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) in the 200 fly (2:32.18), sophomore Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) in the 100 free (1:02.53) and junior Delaney Rolfe (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) in the 400 free (4:45.12).
Washington and Lee will return to action on Saturday as it travels to Arlington, Va., for a double dual against Marymount and Catholic beginning at 2:00 pm.
