FOREST, Va. -- Washington and Lee claimed three ODAC Player of the Week awards for the week ending Dec. 4 as announced by the conference office on Monday.
W&L claimed the weekly honor in both men's and women's track & field and also claimed the women's swimming award. Sophomore Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) was the men's track honoree and first-year Janey Fugate (Atlanta, Ga./Whitfield School) was the women's track recipient. Sophomore Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) took home the weekly award in women's swimming.
Tallman led the Generals in their first indoor track meet of the season at Liberty over the weekend. He placed first among NCAA Division III competitors and second overall in the 400m (50.57), and was also the top Div. III runner (7th overall) in the 200m with a time of 23.02.
Fugate opened her collegiate career finishing first in Div. III (3rd overall) in the 400m (1:01.26) and second in Div. III in the 60m hurdles (9.91). Additionally, Fugate was a member of the 4x400m relay team that finished first among Div. III competitors with a time of 4:12.00.
Hardy was honored as the swimmer of the week after helping the Generals to a second-place finish in the 10-team F&M Invitational over the weekend. She recorded the Generals' lone event win, capturing the 200 free with a time of 1:56.04. She was also a member of the 400 medley relay team that finished in second place (4:03.06), as well as the 400 free relay team that finished fourth in 3:39.87.
All three teams are now off until after the semester break. Both the men's and women's track teams return to action on Jan. 14, when they will take part in the Marietta Open. The women's swimming team returns to the pool on Jan. 14, when they will travel to Bridgewater for a dual meet beginning at 1:00 pm.
