Generals Tame Vixens, 121-78, in Women's Swimming

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's swim team captured 9-of-11 events, including three 1-2-3 sweeps, in defeating Sweet Briar, 121-78, on Friday evening at Cy Twombly pool.

The Generals (5-0) started off the meet by taking first and second in the 400 medley relay. The Generals "A" team of seniors Jocelyn Cassada (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) and Dana Fredericks (Yorktown, Va./Yorktown), first-year Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) and sophomore Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) took first with a time of 4:10.48. They were followed by senior Katie Salvati (Roselle Park, N.Y./Mount Saint Mary Academy), first-year Hannah Melkun (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford), and sophomores Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md./Saint Paul's) and Rebecca Lawrence (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga), who took second in 4:19.92. 

In the individual races, W&L captured each of the top three places in the 200 free, the 400 individual medley and the 200 fly in addition to five other event wins.

In the 200 free, it was senior Joanie Hudak (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet) winning in 2:05.85, followed by junior Kelly Mae Ross (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) with a time of 2:07.36 and junior Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School) with a mark of 2:07.81. 

The 400 IM saw Salvati (4:51.06) and Kasoff (4:55.47) go 1-2, followed by first-year Kate Feeser (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) in third (5:01.93).

The Generals' final event sweep, the 200 fly, featured junior Delaney Rolfe (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) winning in 2:18.12. Hamp and Hampton finished in second and third with times of 2:22.54 and 2:28.80, respectively. 

Other event winners on the evening included Fredericks, who captured the 200 breast (2:32.20), Cassada in the 500 free (5:25.87), Lawrence in the 100 free (58.46), Hardy in the 50 free (26.21) and senior Elizabeth Starnes (Harrison, Tenn./Girls Prep) in the 1000 free (11:18.40).

The Generals return to the pool on Nov. 19, when they travel to Carnegie Mellon to take on CMU and Allegheny beginning at 11:30 am.
