LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's swim team hosted the ODAC Relays at Cy Twombly Pool on Saturday, finishing first out of nine teams.
The Generals were victorious in eight of the 10 events, finishing with 313 points. They were followed by Randolph-Macon (242), Bridgewater (212.5), Sweet Briar (208), Hollins (169), Notre Dame (123), Greensboro (109.5), Guilford (75) and Emory & Henry (59).
In the first relay of the meet, the 3x50 fly, first-year Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio/Elyria Catholic), sophomore Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md./Saint Paul's) and junior Brittany Ross (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) swam to a top time of 1:24.61.
Seniors Jocelyn Cassada (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day), Katie Salvati (Roselle Park, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) and Hamp partnered to win the 3x50 back relay (1:27.18), while senior Dana Fredericks (Yorktown, Va./York), and first-years Hannah Melkun (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) and Mary Gabe (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) captured the 3x50 breast relay with a time of 1:42.23.
Swimming the 500 free relay, junior Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day), sophomore Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive), senior Elizabeth Starnes (Harrison, Tenn./Girls Prep) and junior Delaney Rolfe (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) finished first in a time of 5:02.76. Additionally, Cassada, Fredericks, Hamp and Hardy won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:56.82.
The Generals won the final three events of the meet, as Hamp, Kasoff, junior Andrea Seffens (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge) and Brassfield took the 100 dolphin kick relay (56.14), Fredericks, Kasoff and Melkun won the 3x100 individual medley relay (3:17.29) and the W&L 'A' 8x25 free relay emerged victorious.
W&L returns to action next Saturday, hosting Transylvania at 11:00 am.
