Women's Swim Starts Season with 140-122 Win Over Centre
LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's swim team won six of the 14 events in its dual meet versus Centre College as it defeated the Colonels, 140-122 on Saturday afternoon at Cy Twombly Pool.
Sophomore Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md./Saint Paul's) and first-year Hannah Melkun (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) led the Generals (1-0) with two individual event wins each, while Melkun was also a member of the top finishing 200 medley relay.
Kasoff swam to event wins in the 200 fly with a time of 2:16.40 and in the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.76. Melkun won the 100 breast (1:10.75) and 200 breast (2:31.87), and was joined by senior Jocelyn Cassada (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day), first-year Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) and junior Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day) on the winning 200 medley relay squad that finished in a time of 1:53.53.
The final individual event winner for W&L at the meet was Hamp, who touched in first in the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.38.
The Generals return to action on Friday, as they travel to Mary Washington for a 7:00 pm meet.
