W&L Women's Swim Competes at Day Two of ODAC Tourney

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming team competed in day two of the ODAC/Atlantic States Championships held at the Christiansburg Aquatics Center on Saturday, setting one school record.

W&L continues to lead the tournament, recording 630 points over the first two days. The Generals are followed by Randolph-Macon (474), Sweet Briar (288), Bridgewater (223), Hollins (130), Guilford (102) and Emory & Henry (61).

Highlighting the day was junior Dana Fredericks (Yorktown, Va./York), who set a school record in the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.94.

Saturday's events began with the 200 medley relay, as the squad of juniors Jocelyn Cassada (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) and Fredericks, and sophomores Brittany Ross (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greesnboro Day School) recorded a time of 1:50.90 to take the top spot.

In the other relay of the day, junior Joanie Hudak (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet), sophomore Kelly Mae Ross (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell), first-year Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md./Saint Paul's) and sophomore Delaney Rolfe (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) finished second in the 800 free with a time of 8:06.89.

In the individual events, W&L took the top two spots in the 400 IM, with first-year Michelle Szymczak (Chevy Chase, Md./Chevy Chase) finishing first in a time of 4:49.46 and sophomore Krista Camp (Media, Pa./Episcopal Academy) taking second with a time of 4:53.66.

The Generals had a strong showing in the 100 fly taking the top five spots, paced by Brittany Ross (59.85). She was followed by Kasoff (1:01.45), senior Becky Guynn (Salem, Va./Salem) (1:02.58), sophomore Stephanie Krasnov (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) (1:02.98) and first-year Rebecca Lawrence (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) (1:03.54).

The other event victory on the day came from Cassada who swam to a top finish in the 100 back in a time of 59.71. Senior Tess Hayden (Wilmette, Ill./New trier) also finished well in the event, taking second in 1:00.65.

The Generals return to action tomorrow for the final day of the conference tournament.
