W&L Women's Swimming Competes at ODAC Championships

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming team was in action on Friday evening in the first day of the ODAC/Atlantic States Championships held at the Christiansburg Aquatics Center. 

After the first day, W&L is leading the event with 302 team points.  Randolph-Macon is second with 219 points and is followed by Sweet Briar (90), Bridgewater (87), Hollins (56), Guilford (44) and Emory & Henry (18).

The Generals were led by the 400 medley relay team that finished first overall with a time of 4:00.70. Junior Jocelyn Cassada (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) led off the relay and was joined by junior Dana Fredericks (Yorktown, Va./York), sophomore Brittany Ross (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and sophomore Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School).

Sophomore Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md./Saint Paul's) finished first among ODAC competitors in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.17, while Brittany Ross was second with a time of 2:15.93.  Junior Katie Salvati (Roselle Park, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) finished fourth (2:18.35).

Cassada finished third in the 50 free with a time of 25.09 and swam the lead leg on the 200 free relay team that placed second, touching in 1:39.52.  Cassada was joined on the relay by Fredericks, first-year Rebecca Lawrence (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) Brassfield. Brassfield also finished fourth in the 50 free with a time of 25.14.

The Generals were well represented in the 500 free, with sophomore Delany Rolfe (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) placing second (5:14.58), sophomore Ann McCampbell (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady School) finishing third (5:18.59), senior Tess Hayden (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) touching fourth (5:20.76) and junior Elizabeth Starnes (Harrison, Tenn./Girls Prep) finishing fifth (5:24.32)

Action continues on Saturday morning with the prelims at 10:30 am and the finals at 6:30 pm.
