ODAC Releases Women's Swimming Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its 2010 preseason women's swimming poll on Friday afternoon and Washington and Lee was picked to finish atop the standings.

Washington and Lee received 48 points, including six of the seven first-place votes. The Generals were followed by Randolph-Macon who received the only other first-place vote and 42 points, Sweet Briar (35), Bridgewater (29), Hollins (17), Guilford (14) and Emory & Henry (11).

Returning for the Generals are 10 First Team All-ODAC swimmers from last season, including the 2009 ODAC Rookie of the Year, sophomore Brittany Ross (Chatham, N.J./Chatham). Ross set school records in the 100 fly (59.54) and 200 fly (2:11.54) and helped the 400 medley relay squad to a top finish at the ODAC/Atlantic States Championships last season.

Other returning first team all-conference honorees include senior captain Tess Hayden (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier), juniors Joeclyn Cassada (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day), Dana Fredericks (Yorktown, Va./York), Katie Salvati (Roselle Park, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) and Elizabeth Starnes (Harrison, Tenn./Girls Prep), and sophomores Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School), Ann McCampbell (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady School), Rachel Mensch (Edina, Minn./Edina) and Delaney Rolfe (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park).

Fredericks was a member of the winning 400 medley relay squad, and took top honors in the 100 breast (1:08.98), 200 breast (2:28.97) and second in the 200 IM (2:13.98). Hayden claimed a top finish in the 200 free relay (1:38.91), while claiming second-place finishes in the 100 back (1:00.70) and 200 back (2:11.63). Salvati had first-place finishes in the 400 IM (4:45.37) and 200 back (2:10.69), while McCampbell notched a top individual finish in the 1650 free (18:02.96). Starnes and Rolfe were both members of the winning 800 free relay (7:55.31), and Rolfe also recorded a second-place finish in the 500 free (5:16.63). Mensch took second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:51.24.

W&L also returns four second team all-conference honorees, including junior Brielle Weinstein (Summerville, S.C./Pinewood Prep), and sophomores Megan Bock (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel), Krista Camp (Media, Pa./Episcopal Academy) and Colleen Moore (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield).

On the second team, Bock was a member of the winning 400 free relay (3:37.68) at ODAC's and also recorded a third-place finish in the 200 breast (2:32.18). Weinstein notched a third-place finish in the 100 back (1:02.04) and fourth-place finish in the 200 back (2:15.44), while Camp touched in third in the 400 IM (4:56.25) and fifth in the 200 back (2:15.46).

The Generals take to the pool for the first time on Friday as they host Mary Washington at 6:00 pm.
