SALEM, Va. – Washington and Lee senior swimmer Sarah
Simpson (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) earned the Old Dominion
Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honor for the week ending
Simpson swam eight events for the Generals at the University of Virginia Invitational on Dec. 3-5 and was W&L’s top finisher in each event. In individual events, she recorded a 16th-place finish in the 100 free (54.14), a 23rd-place finish in the 200 free (1:58.44) and a 24th-place finish in the 50 free (25.00).
She was also a member of five top-finishing relay events, including the 200 free relay (7th, 1:39.76), 400 medley relay (8th, 4:09.69), 200 medley relay (8th, 1:54.41), 800 free relay (10th, 8:00.55) and 400 free relay (10th, 3:42.11).
The women’s team finished fourth of six teams at the University of Virginia Invitational over the weekend and is now 4-3 on the season, including a 2-0 mark in the ODAC. The team will return to action Jan. 16 as they travel to Gettysburg.
