W&L Women's Swimming Tops Sweet Briar, 148-111
LEXINGTON, VA – The Washington and Lee women’s swim
team claimed 10 event victories as they went on to defeat Sweet
Briar, 148-111, on Friday evening at Cy Twombly pool.
Nine different Generals placed first in individual events, while
the team claimed one relay victory. Senior Lynn Bazzel (Atlanta,
Ga./Lovett) touched in first in the 200 breast with a time of
2:37.38 and was also a member of the winning 200 medley relay squad
that finished in 1:56.64. Bazzel was joined on the relay squad by
fellow senior Jenna Worsham (Cumming, Ga./Wesleyan School),
sophomore Brielle Weinstein (Summerville, S.C./Pinewood Prep) and
first-year Brittany Ross (Chatham, N.J./Chatham).
Sophomores Weinstein, Erin Schwartz (Laytonsville, Md./Stone Ridge
Sacred Heart) and Elizabeth Starnes (Harrison, Tenn./Girls Prep)
also touched in first in their events. Weinstein claimed the 200
back (2:18.82), while Schwartz took the 100 breast in 1:14.47 and
Starnes finished first in the 100 free (56.88).
Rounding out the individual victories for the Generals were
first-year swimmers Ann McCampbell (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady
School), Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School),
Teresa Soley (Lebanon, N.J./Mother of Divine Grace), Delaney Rolfe
(Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) and Colleen Moore (Ridgefield,
Conn./Ridgefield). McCampbell touched in with a time of 18:54.96 in
the 1650 free, Brassfield claimed the 200 free (2:02.46), Soley
recorded a time of 1:04.29 in the 100 back, Rolfe finished first in
the 200 fly (2:19.28) and Moore took the 400 IM with a time of
5:02.43.
The Generals return to action on Nov. 21 as they travel to
Pittsburgh to face Carnegie Mellon and Rochester.
