W&L Women's Swim Team Takes ODAC Fall Relays

LEXINGTON, Va. – The W&L women’s swimming team claimed six of 10 events as the Generals posted a team score of 362 to take the ODAC Fall Relays on Saturday at Cy Twombly pool.

Sweet Briar was the Generals’ nearest competitor, totaling 254 points. Randolph-Macon (244), Bridgewater (161), Hollins (118), Emory & Henry (106) and Guilford (101) rounded out the competition.

Sophomore Dana Fredericks (Yorktown, Va./York) and first-year Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School) led the Generals to the team win as each participated on four winning relay teams. Seniors Sarah Simpson (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) and Jenna Worsham (Cumming, Ga./Wesleyan School) and first-year Megan Bock (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) each had a part in three winning teams.

Wins for W&L included: Fredericks, Simpson, Brassfield and Worsham all working together to claim the 200 free relay with a time of 1:43.09. Fredericks, Worsham and Bock partnering to finish first with a time of 3:16.84 in the 300 3x00 IM relay. Fredericks and Bock teaming with senior Lynn Bazzel (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett) to win the 150 yard breaststroke relay in a time of 1:37.86. Simpson, Brassfield, Worsham and sophomore Elizabeth Starnes (Harrison, Tenn./Girls Prep) working together on the 400 free relay that won in 3:49.08.

Fredericks and Brassfield were then joined by sophomore Brielle Weinstein (Summerville, S.C./Pinewood Prep) and first-year Brittany Ross (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) to touch in first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:58.13. Brassfield, Bock, Simpson, Starnes and Weinstein teamed with junior Becky Guynn (Salem, Va./Salem), sophomore Jocelyn Cassada (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) and first-year Rachel Mensch (Edina, Minn./Edina) to take the 200 8x25 relay with a time of 1:42.47.

Both the women’s and men’s teams return to action Oct. 31 as they host Transylvania with a start time of 2:00 pm.
