HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's soccer team scored just 4:20 into the game and added a pair of second-half scores to produce a 3-1 victory over Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday at the EMU Turf Field.
First-year forward Megan Duncanson (Hillsborough, Calif. / Crystal Springs Uplands) opened the scoring off an assist from sophomore forward Kelsey Anderson (Alexandria, Va. / Episcopal) and the Generals' defense would ensure the Blue & White (7-2-1, 3-0) carried a 1-0 lead into the break.
W&L struck quickly in the second half as well, with junior forward Megan Engeland (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury) scoring off an assist from first-year midfielder Elle Prillaman (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry) just 43 seconds into the half. First-year midfielder Erin Hoeh (Chesterland, Ohio / West Geauga) made it a 3-0 contest at the 53:18 mark when she found the back of the net off a feed from junior forward Caroline Peters (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Latin School).
The Generals substituted freely from that point on and carried a shutout into the 84th-minute when EMU (3-6-2, 1-3) sophomore midfielder Shaylla Oswald found the goal with an unassisted tally.
For the game, W&L held a 13-2 advantage on shots and a 3-1 edge in corners.
Sophomore goalkeeper Leeann Passaro (Upper Saddle River, N.J. / The Lawrenceville School) played all 90 minutes and allowed the one goal with no saves. Sophomore Leah Wenger also played the duration in goal for the Royals and posted five saves with three goals allowed.
Washington and Lee will be in action again on Saturday when it hosts Lynchburg for a 12:00 pm contest.
