LYNCHBURG, Va. – Senior midfielder Rebecca Morris (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall) scored three goals and had two assists to lead the Washington and Lee women's soccer team to a 7-0 victory over Randolph on Saturday afternoon at WildCat Stadium.
Morris' eight points in the victory are the most points in a game for a W&L player since the 2005 season. Anne Wiltshire '06 recorded eight points in an 8-0 win over Randolph-Macon Woman's College on September 14.
The Generals (6-2-1, 3-0) took an early 2-0 lead just 9:56 into the contest with both goals coming from Morris. Sophomore defender Laney Smith (Mountain Brook, Ala. / Mountain Brook) gave the Generals a 3-0 lead in the 27th minute when she headed the ball past Randolph (2-6-1, 0-3) senior keeper Quinn-Lynn Bates off of a Morris' corner kick.
W&L carried the 3-0 lead into the intermission and added a fourth score just eight minutes into the second half when sophomore forward Kelsey Chamberlin (Greensboro, N.C. / Page) scored off of an assist from Morris. Morris tallied her final goal of the contest at the 57:55 mark to give the Generals a 5-0 lead.
First-year midfielder Erin Hoeh (Chesterland, Ohio / West Geauga) would score W&L's sixth goal off of a corner by senior midfielder Chandler Wickers (Portola Valley, Calif. / Menlo School) in the 69th minute. Junior midfielder Danielle Spickard (Valencia, Calif. / William S. Hart) scored the final tally of the contest in the 87th minute when she scored off of an assist from first-year midfielder Allie Miller (Atlanta, Ga. / Westminster Schools).
W&L held a commanding 29-1 advantage in shots and a 10-2 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore keeper Leeann Passaro (Upper Saddle River, N.J. / The Lawrenceville School) played 77 minutes in goal for the Generals and made one save. Bates played the full 90 minutes for the WildCats and made six stops.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Eastern Mennonite for a 7:00 pm contest.
