LEXINGTON, Va. – Junior midfielder Megan Engeland (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury) netted the game-winning goal in the 29th minute to give the Washington and Lee women's soccer team a 2-0 victory over Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.
Engeland scored at the 29:59 mark after she headed in the ball off of a corner kick from sophomore defender Emily Roche' (Ashburn, Va. / Broad Run). W&L (4-2-1) would take a 1-0 lead into intermission.
Roche' tallied her second assist of the day when she crossed the ball into the box and found the feet of junior forward Caroline Peters (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Latin School), who scored in an open net after R-MC (3-3-1) sophomore goalkeeper Christina Newman came off her line in the 67th minute.
W&L outshot the Yellow Jackets, 23-5, and held a 12-8 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore keeper Leeann Passaro (Upper Saddle River, N.J. / The Lawrenceville School) played the full 90 minutes and made two stops for the Generals. Newman also played the entire contest and made five saves.
The Generals return to action on Wednesday when they host Hollins at 4:30 pm.
