LEXINGTON, Va. – Junior forward Megan Engeland (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury) scored two goals to lead the Washington and Lee women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Meredith on Wednesday night at Watt Field.
After a two-hour weather delay at the start of the game, first-year forward Sydney Von Rosenberg (Boerne, Texas / Boerne-Samuel V. Champion) scored the game-winning goal in the first minute when she collected the ball in the center of the box and fired it into the lower corner of the net.
The Generals (3-2-1) took a 2-0 lead at the 19:37 mark when sophomore defender Emily Roche' (Ashburn, Va. / Broad Run) played the ball into the box and found the head of Engeland, who put it past Meredith (3-3) senior keeper Jaisa Loch.
A W&L player was tripped in the box at the 59:15 mark and the Generals were awarded a penalty kick. Engeland buried the penalty shot to give W&L a 3-0 lead.
First-year forward Megan Duncanson (Hillsborough, Calif. / Crystal Springs Uplands) gave the Blue and White their final goal of the game in the 70th minute after striking the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal.
W&L held a commanding 23-3 advantage in shots and an 11-2 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore keeper Leeann Passaro (Upper Saddle River, N.J. / The Lawrenceville School) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Generals and made one save. Loch also played the entire contest in goal and made eight saves.
The Generals open ODAC-play on Saturday when they host Randolph-Macon for a 3:00 pm contest.
