W&L Women's Soccer Ranked Second in ODAC Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its 2014 women’s soccer preseason coaches’ poll on Wednesday and Washington and Lee is picked to finish second, totaling 130 points, and received one first-place vote.

Lynchburg, the four-time defending ODAC champion, received 10-of-13 first-place votes and totaled 141 points.  Virginia Wesleyan sits third with 124 points and Roanoke follows behind in fourth with 107 points. Bridgewater rounds out the Top 5 with 123 points, while Shenandoah (91), Randolph-Macon (78), Emory & Henry (63), Eastern Mennonite (49), Guilford (47), Randolph (39), Hollins and Sweet Briar (21) complete the poll.

Washington and Lee will look to build on the success of last season after finishing with a 17-3-1 (11-1 ODAC) record and advancing to the ODAC tournament championship.

The Generals have four First-Team All-ODAC honorees returning from 2013 in senior forward Haley Ward (Federal Way, Wash. / Federal Way), senior midfielder Holley Beasley (Virginia Beach, Va. / Norfolk Academy), junior goalkeeper Addie Healy (Waterford, Va. / Woodgrove) and sophomore defender and reigning ODAC Rookie of the Year, Ashley Hogan (North Chesterfield, Va. / Monacan). Ward and Beasley led the team in points with 23 last season. Healy totaled 51 saves, a 0.48 goals against average and a .864 save percentage. 

Also returning for the Blue and White are senior midfielder Lauren Abraham (Richmond, Va. / Mills E. Godwin) and sophomore forward Tricia Jessee (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry) who both garnered Second Team All-ODAC honors last fall. Abraham scored six goals last season and Jessee was the Generals’ top scorer with nine goals.

The Generals open their season at Watt Field, hosting Meredith College on August 29. The match is set to start at 1:00 pm.
