LYNCHBURG, Va. – With a goal in the 76th minute, top-seeded Lynchburg defeated the second-seeded Washington and Lee women's soccer team, 1-0, in the ODAC Tournament Championship match on Saturday evening at Shellenberger Field.
The Generals (15-2-1) and the second-ranked Hornets (22-0-0) went into halftime notched at 0-0, despite Lynchburg out-shooting Washington and Lee, 11-1.
The Hornets' senior forward Dessi Depuy tallied the game-winner at the 75:49 mark off of an assist from junior forward Morgan Singer.
Junior goalkeeper Addie Healy (Waterford, Va. / Woodgrove) played all 90 minutes in net for the Generals and recorded a season-high nine saves. W&L also posted one team save. Sophomore keeper Tess Frelick also played the entire match in goal and totaled three saves for the Hornets.
For the game, Lynchburg out-shot Washington and Lee, 26-5, and held the edge in corner kicks, 5-2.
The Generals will now wait to see if they will receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The selection show is set to air on Monday at 1:00 pm.
